So, I played around a bit in Blender again and that’s the result. The object is a math preset from Blender (Extra Objects), so the modeling effort was almost zero.
Anyway, I personally think that the texture turned out quite well. The mixture of translucency, bump and surface imperfections looks somehow "delicious". :-)
As usual for me, the swarm of objects is a rigid body simulation because it is so simple and (almost) always looks good. Simply drop the copied objects and Blender will calculate the pile. Finished.
